In December 2010 the Minister of Health sent to the Presidents of the Chamber and Senate of the Seventh Report to Parliament on the operations carried out by Ministry on alcohol and Regions in accordance with Law No. 30.3.2001 125 "Framework law on alcohol and alcohol-related problems."

Data on alcohol consumption and consumption patterns confirm the gradual removal of our country from the traditional Mediterranean pattern of consumption.
E 'increased over the past decade the number of those who consume alcohol outside of meals, with a significant increase especially among women.
The binge drinking, how to drink northern European origin that involves the consumption of many units of alcohol in a short period of time covered in 2009, 12.4% of men and 3.1% of women and is now widespread habit permanently especially in the male population of 18-24 years (21,6,1%) and 25-44 years (17.4%).
Practice binge drinking is also a good percentage of women aged 18 to 24 years (7.9%) and among the young of 11-15 years it is more widespread than among boys.

In general, the consumer risk applies to the 15.8% of Italians over 11 years, for a total of nearly 8 million and a half people. Among them, about 475,000 children in particular (the 18.5% of boys and 15.5% of girls under 16 years), in which consumption should be equal to 0, and about 3 million seniors (44.7% of males el '11, 3% of females over 65) in which the consumer at risk coincides with the daily consumption mostly unmoderated, especially during meals.

The type of consumption prevalent among young people at risk is the consumption between meals, which in 2009 covered 34.4% of males and 22.8% of females aged between 11 and 25 years. Already
to 18-19 years, the share of consumers is close to the average population and the perceived availability of alcoholic beverages is one of the young Italians between the highest in Europe.
Almost half (45.4%) of hospital diagnosis for alcohol-related disease totally relates to those over 55 years, but some years the percentage of alcohol-related diagnoses is increasing in age group 36-55 years, while continuing to decline in age group 15-35 years.
The proportion of hospital diagnoses for alcoholic liver cirrhosis shows growth in recent years in relation to other alcohol-related diagnoses of hospitalization, rising between 2000 and 2008 from 26.30% to 35.00% of the total of such diagnosis. The

alcohol problems in treatment in public services are steadily increasing since 1996 and in 2008, about 66,548 were detected. Among them in particular the percentage of young people under the age of 30 represent 10.2% of the total, with a value in growth compared to the previous survey (10%), especially among new users.

It is still low compared to other European countries the dissemination of knowledge on the rate of legal blood alcohol limits for driving and consumption compatible with it. The
2.12% of all causes of traffic accidents recorded in 2008, for a total of 5,920 cases concerning the intoxication by alcohol, with a percentage increase over the previous year.

Despite the large proportion of the population exposed to a wide range of risks alcohol-related data of the report also highlights some positive trends in the evolution of some indicators of risk, both in relation to the younger population (decrease in consumption between meals among males aged 14-17 years, decreased the attitudes of tolerance to drunkenness among young people aged 15-19 years , a declining share of young students who get drunk) than to that of more than 65 years old (slight decrease in consumption at risk in both sexes).

also occur in steady decline in the national rate of mortality from liver cirrhosis and that of hospitalization for alcohol-related diseases completely, it is slightly declining in recent years the percentage of new users under the age of 20 in alcoholism treatment services; remains finally stopped in the spread among our youth, their peers in Europe, of consumers at risk, such as frequent consumption, binge drinking and drunkenness.
